University of Michigan Releases to FMI Records about Alt-Right Poster Campaign

Alt-Right activists have distributed Alt-Right posters on the campus of the University of Michigan over the course of the last year, and significant public attention has been generated because of it.  Professors have protested against the posters, spokesmen for the university released a formal statement, and the administration responded by earmarking $85 million towards future pro-diversity initiatives.  The president of the University of Michigan decreed the thought-provoking posters to be an "act of terrorism."

Through a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Foundation for the Marketplace of Ideas, Inc., never-before-released materials reveal how the administrators--and police--dealt with the Alt-Right posters.

Noteworthy about the documents is that the University of Michigan Police Department was used by the administrators to remove "Misc. Non-Criminal; 'Upsetting posters on display."  The "upsetting" posters were determined to be "Eurocentric."

Amusingly, one individual emailed President Mark Schlissel on September 28, 2016, to relay that they had to "step out of class to cry" because they were "overwhelmed with all of these recent and ongoing racist events."  Another individual relayed to Schlissel that the posters could have eroded her daughter's "self-esteem" had she not had "the strength to deal with it[.]"  A different individual emailed Schlissel to relay that they felt "isolated and vulnerable" due to the posters.  Yet another individual relayed that they are "frightened by the presence of Identity Evropa on our campus" and that they are "afraid[.]"
